How to choose an automatic pet feeder

1. Battery backup is non-negotiable

The single most common horror story is a power blip that wipes the schedule and skips meals. Only buy a feeder that keeps its schedule on batteries. Every pick above does.

2. Match the food type

Standard feeders are dry-food only. If your pet eats wet or fresh food, you need a refrigerated feeder — don't try to force wet food into a dry dispenser.

3. Multiple pets? Think access, not schedule

If one pet steals the other's food, a scheduled feeder won't help — you need a microchip/RFID feeder that only opens for the right animal.
